My Garmin says 13.52 miles for the 13.11 mile course ?!?! I noticed other people’s beeping before the mile markers too – quite soon into it too.

Anyway, correct distance or not – I didn’t quite manage 1 hour 50 minutes, and for a few reasons:

  • After mile 6 I took on fluids and a gel (walked while doing so) then had to find a bush for the loo…
  • The second half I mentally lost it – I backed down a bit because my legs were aching – I didn’t speed up again after recovery.

Luckily I bumped into Ron just before Mile 12 marker who was walking and told him “come on you can make the last mile!” and he started running again – fast! Spurred me on to my fastest mile. I couldn’t hold that pace for much longer, but it proves I had the energy in me to have been faster sooner.

Still its done, and I’m pleased at taking 10 minutes (!!!!) off my time since December!
